Interlude: The Tunnel

The tunnel entrance behind the Yellow Monster led to a well-lit service tunnel.  What mysterious Ancient power keeps these lights on?

The group spent a lot of time trying to pry one of the lights off the wall.  Their efforts came to a halt when Bigpalla electrocuted himself while using a metal prybar on one of the lamps.  After Cyrus revived him, they decided to leave the lights alone and moved on.

The tunnel to the other side of the mountain was, at best, poorly lit.  Ancient lights sporadically illuminated the once-busy underground highway, adding to the sad, spooky atmosphere.  At times the tunnel widened to 2 different lanes, and sometimes a collapse forced a switch from one side of the tunnel to the other.

A half a day in, the first hazard encountered is the tunnel submerging entirely under water.  As the players come to this and dither about what to do there is a MIRELURK ATTACK!

The mirelurks were defeated rather easily.  The group managed to extract a shell and use it as a portable air pocket.  Elric took it under the water and found the water extended only 7 meters before he reached open air.  All characters resisted the radiation effect of the water.

The group traveled for days.  Supplies got low.  They had a good scavenging encounter when they came upon a passenger bus – everyone got new clothes.  Even Parvus got an overcoat.

The day after that there was an encounter with ferals.  They found a lair with a chest full of domars and a double barrel shotgun.

The day after that, they came upon a roadside rest area that included a smoke shop and a Super Duper Mart.  They were able to dispatch wandering ferals and stock up on food.

Shortly after leaving the rest stop, they encountered a Sentry Bot in a cement and steel enclosure.  Elric identified it as highly dangerous though he couldn’t remember the exact model.  The group left it (after Cyrus confirmed he couldn’t find any buttons to press) and moved on.

Just a few short hours later they finally breached the tunnel into open air!  Unfortunately, it was night time so they decided to camp in the mouth of the tunnel rather than go exploring.
